Tea is the elixir of life!
The way scientific studies and advertising campaigns have presented the benefits of tea over the past few years makes us think that this is some kind of all-powerful magic elixir.
Improving heart health, reducing cancer risk, preventing dementia and diabetes are actions credited to tea. It is true, however, that the tea beverage has antioxidants (polyphenols), which appear to protect cells from DNA damage that can be caused by cancer and other diseases, says David L. Katz, MD, director at research of Yale University Prevention Center.
But when scientists talk about tea, they mean the four kinds of black, green, white, or oolong tea, made from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. All four types of tea have a high content of polyphenols, a type of antioxidant. However, green tea contains a particularly high amount of antioxidants, in particular a species called catechin polyphenols, which is more active.
A Japanese study found that adults who drank five or more cups of green tea a day had a 26% reduction in deaths from a heart attack or stroke compared to those who drank a cup or less. The effect was greater for women than for men. There is also a report in the research that drinking tea can help prevent osteoporosis and reduce the incidence of bone cavities due to fluoride it content.
Of course, a healthy lifestyle, exercise, proper nutrition, and disease prevention are always the foundation of our lives. But his drink (4-5 cups of tea a day) undoubtedly “helps lower LDL (bad) cholesterol and triglycerides, risk factors for cardiovascular disease,” says D. L. McKay, PhD, professor of nutrition at Tufts School School.
In conclusion tea is good for our health!!!
