HappyMod 3.5.1 is the current release, and updating takes only a couple of minutes. Because HappyMod is not on the Play Store, the update does not happen in the background. You either accept the prompt inside the app or install the new APK over the old one. Both methods keep your settings and your downloaded files. This guide walks you through each method, shows what changed in 3.5.1 and fixes the common “App not installed” error.
Check which version you have
Before you update, see what you are running:
- Open HappyMod.
- Tap the Me tab or the menu icon in the top corner.
- Open Settings and scroll to About. The version number is shown there.
You can also open Android Settings, go to Apps, find HappyMod and read the version at the bottom of the app info page. If it already says 3.5.1, you are up to date. If it is older, keep reading.
What is new in HappyMod 3.5.1
Version 3.5.1 was released in October 2026. The APK is about 18.1 MB and needs Android 11 or newer. The main changes are:
- Faster downloads from the built in downloader, with better resume after a dropped connection.
- Improved search, so typing the original app name finds the right mod page more often.
- Compatibility with Android 16.
- A smaller install size than the previous releases.
- Bug fixes for crashes on the mod page and the download list.
The full list is in the HappyMod 3.5.1 changelog. If your phone runs Android 10 or older, 3.5.1 will not install, and our post on HappyMod old versions explains what to do.
Method 1: Update from the prompt inside the app
When a new version is available, HappyMod shows an update notice when you open it. Sometimes it appears as a banner at the top of the home tab, sometimes as a popup.
- Tap Update on the notice.
- HappyMod downloads the new APK with its own downloader. You can watch the progress in the download list.
- When the download finishes, Android opens the install screen. Tap Install.
- If Android asks whether HappyMod can install unknown apps, tap Settings, turn the switch on and come back.
- Tap Open when the install completes.
You do not need to uninstall anything. Android treats this as an update of the same app, so your settings, download history and files stay where they were.
If you closed the notice, you can find it again in Settings under Check for updates. If the app says you are up to date but the version is still old, use Method 2.
Method 2: Install the new APK over the old one
The manual method works even if the in app prompt never appears.
- Open your browser and open the official download page.
- Download the HappyMod 3.5.1 APK. Your browser may warn you that the file type can harm your device. That is the standard Android warning for every APK, not a judgement about this file.
- Open the file from the download notification or from your Files app.
- Android shows “Do you want to update this app?” with the existing app icon. That line confirms the new APK matches your installed copy. Tap Update or Install.
- Wait for the install, then open HappyMod and check the version in About.
Why your data survives
Android allows an update over an existing app only when both APKs carry the same signing certificate. The HappyMod APK from the official site is signed with the same key as every earlier release, so the update replaces the code and leaves the app data untouched. Your downloaded mods, your favourites and your account stay exactly as they were.
Will I lose my downloaded mods?
No. HappyMod stores downloaded APK and XAPK files in its own folder on your storage, usually under Download or under the HappyMod folder, depending on your Android version. An update of the app does not delete that folder. The games you already installed from HappyMod are separate apps on your phone, and the update does not touch them either.
The only way to lose the downloaded files is to uninstall HappyMod and clear its data. If you ever need to do that, move the files to another folder first. Our beginner guide on how to download mods from HappyMod shows exactly where the files are saved.
Fix “App not installed” during the update
This error has a few causes. Work through them in order.
Signature mismatch
If your current copy of HappyMod came from another website, it may have been signed with a different key. Android refuses to update an app when the signatures do not match. The fix is to uninstall the old copy and then install 3.5.1 cleanly:
- Back up your downloaded mod files by copying them to another folder.
- Uninstall HappyMod from Android Settings.
- Install the new APK from the official page.
- Move your mod files back if you want them in the download list.
This is also the moment to switch to the official source, so future updates work without this step.
Not enough storage
The installer needs room for the new APK plus a working copy. Free up a few hundred megabytes and try again.
Android version too old
Version 3.5.1 requires Android 11. On Android 10 or older the install fails right away. Check Settings, About phone, Android version.
Install from unknown apps is blocked
Open Android Settings, go to Apps, Special app access, Install unknown apps, and allow it for the browser or Files app you are using. On some phones the switch is under Security instead.
A corrupt download
If the download was interrupted, the APK may be incomplete. Delete it, download it again, and check that the size is close to 18 MB.

Turn on update notifications
So you do not miss the next release:
- In HappyMod, open Settings and turn on update notifications.
- On Android 13 and newer, the system asks for notification permission the first time. Allow it.
- Check that HappyMod is not restricted in Android’s battery settings, or the notice may be delayed.
HappyMod only notifies you about new versions of the app and about updates for mods you downloaded. It does not need the permission for anything else.
Updating the mods themselves
Modded games do not update through the Play Store. When a mod has a newer build, HappyMod marks it on the mod page and in the Updates list. Download the new build the same way you did the first time. If the mod uses the same signature as your installed copy, it installs over the old one. If not, you need to uninstall the game first, which may reset local progress.
FAQs
Do I need to uninstall HappyMod before updating?
No, as long as your current copy came from the official site. Install the new APK over it and your data stays.
Why does the update prompt not appear?
The app checks for updates when it opens with an internet connection. If it still shows nothing, open Settings and tap Check for updates, or update manually with the new APK.
Can I go back to an older version after updating?
Yes, but Android will not install an older APK over a newer one. You would uninstall 3.5.1 first, which clears the app data.
Does updating HappyMod update my modded games?
No. Each mod is a separate app. Check its mod page for a newer build when one is available.
Final words
Updating HappyMod to 3.5.1 is quick: accept the in app prompt, or download the new APK and install it over the old one. Your mods and settings survive as long as the old copy was genuine. Get the latest version from the official download page, and visit teaway.net for every other guide.
